On October 12th, the 2024 Shanghai Cooperation Organization Ice Hockey Tournament officially kicked off at the Harbin Ice Hockey Arena. Ice hockey teams from four Shanghai Cooperation Organization countries, China, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan, gathered in Harbin. In the next 3 days, they will present 6 top-level ice hockey matches to the live audience. In the opening match of the competition, Shenzhen Kunlun Hongxing Club, which was basically Harbin men's ice hockey team, achieved a counterattack after falling behind 0-1 and ultimately defeated their opponents 3-1.

This competition is supported by the GNFCC SCO and the Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Government of Heilongjiang Province, hosted by the China Ice Hockey Association, the Provincial Sports Bureau, and the Harbin Municipal People's Government, and organized by the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Ice and Snow Sports Demonstration Zone Harbin Core Area Preparation Work Special Team, the Municipal Sports Bureau, the Municipal Government Foreign Affairs Office, and Shengshi (Heilongjiang) Ice and Snow Sports Co., Ltd. As a sports event based on the joint participation of all relevant countries under the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the 2024 Shanghai Cooperation Organization Ice Hockey Competition that has been included in the list of activities of the rotating chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the directory of the Belt and Road "Ice and Snow Silk Road" activities of the National Development and Reform Commission is one of the important tasks of the "Overall Plan for the Construction of the China Shanghai Cooperation Organization Ice and Snow Sports Demonstration Area". The hosting of the event will play a positive role in improving China's ice hockey level, enhancing cultural exchanges between Shanghai Cooperation Organization countries, and strengthening Harbin's position as a strong ice and snow sports city.

The opening ceremony performance, which took place first, was divided into three chapters: past, present, and future, and conducted inside and outside the venue, respectively. Chinese Khoomei performer Bai Qingshan, internationally renowned jazz band, and provincial acrobatic troupe staged a large-scale ice show and other  wonderful performances specifically created for the opening ceremony, showcasing the glorious development of Harbin's ice hockey industry and fully demonstrating the profound cultural heritage of ice and snow sports in Harbin.

After the opening ceremony, the opening match of this competition officially started. Shenzhen Kunlun Hongxing Ice Hockey Club will face the "Central Asian Eagles" Kazakhstan Ice Hockey League champions, AHL Almaty Ice Hockey Team. In the end, Shenzhen Kunlun Hongxing Club defeated their opponents 3-1.
